About Easy Sentence

Easy Sentence is a small, independent project: a set of free, client-side writing tools built to explain readability instead of just scoring it. Nothing you type is uploaded anywhere — every checker on this site runs entirely in your browser.

Why this site exists

Most readability checkers hand you a number and stop there. A score with no explanation doesn't tell you what to fix, or why a sentence is hard to read in the first place. That gap is what this site tries to close.

Every tool here pairs a score with sentence-level detail: which sentences are the problem, and a plain-language reason why. The goal isn't a better number. It's writing a reader can actually follow.

Data sources

The plain language checker's word-frequency data comes from the New General Service List (NGSL) and New Academic Word List (NAWL) by Charles Browne, Brent Culligan, and Joseph Phillips — newgeneralservicelist.com, licensed under aCreative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
